Proud to officially announce another SU educator in the family! William Landon ’58, was an administrator and superintendent in Kent County MD. Lori Batts ’84, M’98, is an administrator in Wicomico County. Grace Batts is a secondary math major and dance minor, Class of 2027.
1970s
Valerie Webster ’70 just released her highly anticipated second book in the Rita Mars Thriller series – Objects of Desire.
Patrick Donahue ’74 received the Governor’s Citation for his participation in the University of Maryland Alumni Association-International, Inc.
Al “Hondo” Handy ’75 was welcomed to the Wor-Wic Community College Foundation Board of Directors.
David Cottle ’78 is serving his first year as an offensive coordinator for the Naval Academy’s Midshipman Lacrosse team.
1980s
Richard Smith ’86 retired from Montgomery County Public Schools, MD, in June 2022 after teaching high school social studies for almost 33 years. He coached football for 20 of those years and wrestling for 30 years. He also was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Maryland Chapter in November 2022 and received the Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award. He was inducted into the Paint Branch High School (Montgomery County, MD) Athletic Hall of Fame in October 2022.
William “Bill” McCain M’87 was recognized for his contributions to the region by being presented with the Perdue Executive Advisory Council Leadership Award.
1990s
Timothy DeMar ’90 retired from the Secret Service.
Bruce Lesh ’92 published his second book, Developing Historical Thinkers: Supporting Historical Inquiry for All Students.
Honorable Michael Arlinsky ’93 is now a Magistrate with the Virginia Supreme Court.
Daniel Quinn ’94 was hired as the head coach for the NFL’s Washington Commanders (read more).
Dr. Bill Schneider ’95, M’03 was named vice president of system effectiveness for the North Carolina Community College System.
Karen Archambault ’96 was promoted to senior vice president, enrollment management and student success at Rowan College in Burlington County, NJ.
Donise Dukes ’96 is the new vice president of federal affairs at ITC Holdings.
Dr. Kathryn Fiddler ’96, M’11 is named one of Maryland’s top 100 Women by The Daily Record.
Scott McIntosh ’96 wrote a book on the unintended consequences of the pandemic and ways to help our children get back on track. The book is called COVID Broke Our Kids.
David DiPaola ’01 was inducted into the Springfield High School Athletics Hall of Fame.
Tom Huntington ’97 was appointed as the new president of Woodcraft Supply, LLC.
Francis McAndrews ’97 received the 2023 President’s Award from the USA Lacrosse Chesapeake Chapter.
Nicole Ostrowski (Kimball) ’98 recently won a Purple Dragonfly Book Award for her children’s picture book Some Days He Growled, which serves as a high-level intro into the cycle of domestic violence.
Kimberly Winterbottom ’98 & ’01 was named a National Principal of the Year finalist by the National Association of Secondary School Principals for 2023. Winterbottom has been invited to participate in several unique opportunities as a result of this award. She has visited the U.S. Department of Education, the White House, Capitol Hill and even the NCAA College Football playoff events and game in January. Most recently, she was one of 40 volunteers selected to participate in the Lifetouch Memory Mission trip to Guatemala. The mission teamed with Hug It Forward, a nonprofit group, to build school classrooms using bottles in a remote Indigenous village outside of the city of Tecpan.
2000s
Melissa Book ’00, Ph.D.’17 was able to secure a $216,000 grant that will support efforts to increase retention and success of first-year students at SU.
William “Rob” Frampton ’00, M’14 is the new fire chief for the City of Salisbury Fire Department.
Kevin Hamlin ’01, Ph.D. ’14 was promoted to assistant superintendent for college and career readiness at Anne Arundel County Public School.
Dr. Kimberly Bishop-Lilly ’02 was recognized as a scientist and leader with the Navy Medicine Research and Development Enterprise during Women’s History Month.
Bethany Ramey ’02 and 197 other law enforcement officers graduated from the FBI National Academy’s 289th session in Quantico, VA. Lieutenant Ramey, who joined the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office in 2001, has served in both the Field Services Division, the Investigative Services Division and is currently assigned as the commander of the Judicial Services Division.
Derrick Cuccia ’03 was promoted to chief of police in East Fishkill, NY.
Matthew Ripa ’04 is a visiting assistant professor of theatre at Lycoming College.
Bryan Bradford ’05 is the newest partner with Source One Business Services.
Dr. Alicia Canzanese ’08 was elected as the 2024 President of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine.
Tammy Jones ’08, M’09 was welcomed as a new mental health therapist at Chesapeake Health Care.
Michael Ring ’08 and Brian Ernest ’09 were awarded Best Disruptive Technology Company of 2023 by Simply Annapolis Magazines for the business Blockchain Crypto Tax Prep in Annapolis, MD.
Kirstin Mason ’09 won the Emerging Leader of the Year award for her work at Cvent.
Stephanie Gerhold ’09, M’10 was named Baltimore County Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year as a 20-year educator who teaches ESOL.
2010s
Barbara Gang ’10 published her new children’s books When I Get Lonely and When I Am Lonely.
Mackenzie Keyser ’13 facilitated the writing and publishing of a book called Keep Our Beaches Clean: What if Everybody Did That with her second-grade class.
Kristen Farrell ’14, D.N.P. ’21 was welcomed to Choptank Community Health System as part of its Talbot County School-Based Health Center team.
Kasey Harris ’14 is serving as the vice president of accounting product and enablement for Debtbook, an accounting software firm in Charlotte, NC. With her help, Debtbook was named No. 1 on Charlotte Business Journal’s 2023 Fast 50 list – a ranking of Charlotte’s fastest-growing companies.
Katie Reyes ’15, M’19 was hired in January as the assistant athletic director for Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA.
Debra Reynolds ’15, M’17 was named Wicomico County Board of Education’s 2024/2025 Teacher of the Year.
Olivia Dorman ’16 & ’18 is now a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner with TidalHealth Pulmonary in Salisbury, MD.
Katelyn Robinson ’16 was named Dorchester County Public Schools 2024/2025 Teacher of the Year.
Ranger Joanna Trojanowski ’16 (Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park), Ranger Myia Tariq ’19 (Sandy Point State Park), Ranger Tommy Schlauch ’16 (Cunningham Falls State Park) and Ranger Katie Mitchell ’15 (Deep Creek Lake State Park) are all 2024 graduates of the Maryland Ranger School. Mitchell also received the highest overall grade, which earned her the Dean’s Award.
Joseph Wenke ’16, M’19 was awarded the Cora Selby District Teacher of the Year 2025.
Samantha Utt ’18 accepted a position as a project coordinator with the National Park Service Chesapeake Gateways Program, Partnerships and Grants.
