A plan for a new Salisbury University performing arts center in downtown Salisbury is moving forward following an overwhelmingly positive Wicomico County Council vote that will provide SU with the property to build the facility.

Expected to open within four to five years, the project is contingent upon an agreement allowing SU to take possession of the space currently housing the Wicomico Public Library’s Paul S. Sarbanes Branch. In return, SU will lease its building at the picturesque location on Schumaker Pond to the library.

A new performing arts facility would enhance the student experience and attract students interested in arts-related careers while providing a much-needed venue for community events. The realization of this facility relies on funding from grants, capital money allocated by the state and donations. SU’s Advancement team is charged with securing gifts to show SU’s commitment to the project and push the project forward in the state’s funding queue.
