On the Road as a Music Tour Manager

Keeping the Beat Going

Nothing beats the feeling of when a concert begins – that breathtaking moment before the lights go up, the artist takes the stage, and the audience roars with excitement.

A concert is a night to remember, a memory that many keep close to them for the rest of their lives.

Meg Miller is one of the people who makes it all happen.

“The coolest part about my job is doing all this work behind the scenes, then going to the show and watching it unfold,” Meg said.

People may not realize all that goes into planning a concert. Before the crew, instruments, gear and headlining artist can arrive at a venue, someone has to figure out the logistics of travel, finances and everything in between.

That’s where Meg comes in. As someone who loves to be ahead of the game and keep things moving, she found her perfect fit in tour management.

“Sometimes you see a fan who is in their 20s and has never been to a concert – we make it happen for those people,” Meg said. “It’s a nice reminder of what makes our job so special.”

Not one to stay in place for long, Meg hit the road to Nashville after graduating from Salisbury University in 2019. She soon landed a job as tour manager for Lainey Wilson, nine-time Country Music Association (CMA) Award winner. For her early success, Meg was named one of the “30 Under 30” young professionals in country music by The Nashville Briefing and earned her own CMA Touring Award for 2023 Tour Manager of the Year.

No one is going to decide your path. You have to really want something and chase it.

A big lesson in entertainment is that you have to go after it,” Meg said. “No one is going to decide your path. You have to really want something and chase it.”

Now that Meg has found her path, she hopes to open the door for other women to get into touring, too.

“The women I know who tour are some of my favorite people in the world,” Meg said. “What we do is a lot of hard work, but so awesome and fun. It’s something I’m going to stick with for a long time.”
