Salisbury University students and members of the Maryland Army National Guard (MDARNG) can now partner for educational benefits thanks to a recent mutual support and collaboration agreement.

The agreement centers on the development of an enduring academic and mentorship partnership program with SU’s College of Health and Human Services. Both organizations will benefit from enhanced collaboration opportunities, including SU student and faculty attendance at the MDARNG Annual Medical Symposium, mutual recruitment and furthering education opportunities, and establishing a pipeline for MDARNG involvement on campus, including special events, inactive duty and annual training, the potential for guest speakers and participation in campus events.

“The Maryland National Guard is part of the Eastern Shore Community,” said Maj. Gen. Janeen L. Birckhead, adjutant general for Maryland. “We were partners in the community during the COVID-19 response. Now, we’ll partner with Salisbury University’s College of Health and Human Services investing our medical professionals, labs and training in the next generation of medical professionals.”

“The agreement we are signing today reaffirms our commitment to supporting those who serve, and together we embark on a journey that holds great promise for our collective future,” said SU President Carolyn Ringer Lepre.

This isn’t the first partnership between the organizations, as SU is among the 40 members of MDARNG’s Partners in Education Program that offers state tuition waivers and state tuition assistance reimbursement benefits to service members.
