Each semester, graduating seniors take the Educational Testing Service’s (ETS) major field test in business (MFTB) as part of the capstone MGMT 492 course. The MFTB assesses students on foundational business concepts that span every discipline in the Perdue School of Business. The results are used by the Perdue School’s faculty Assurance of Learning Committee to measure how well we are meeting our first learning goal: “Our graduates will be knowledgeable about business concepts.” Students’ scores can be broken down by discipline and concept and compared to national averages, allowing us to understand our students’ knowledge relative to their national peers. Based on these results, the faculty can target interventions in the curriculum to reinforce certain concepts, as needed, and ensure that our students are receiving a well-rounded business education.
Since the results of the MFTB have important implications for the school, it is critical that students make their best effort when taking this exam. Therefore, it is included as a graded component of MGMT 492. In addition, monetary prizes are awarded to the top three scorers each semester. For the Fall 2023 semester, Ellen Seifert (Accounting) was awarded $100 as the top scorer. Aaron Cave (Accounting)and Bryce Robinson (Information Systems) tied for the second highest score and each received $75. Jeffrey Riker (Management) earned the third highest score and a $50 prize.
Congratulations to our prize winners! And thank you to all of our students who completed the exam, as it serves an important role in our goal of continuous improvement.
