Overview

SU Today serves as a means of communication with faculty, staff and students. SU Today admins publish news and announcements in a blog format for the campus community to receive SU-related announcements all in one easy to navigate place. Accompanied by a weekly system-wide email announcement linked to full blog articles, SU Today serves as a means to reduce non-critical information in your email inboxes and to provide an accessible archive of past news and announcements. SU Today can be accessed through computers, tablets and mobile devices.

The SU Today email announcement is distributed weekly with the headlines and short descriptions of all new posts. Headlines are hyperlinked to the full posts. Announcements are allowed to be posted a maximum of three times (limit one per week) under the condition the headline/content is altered to reflect something new each time.To request assistance with an announcement, please contact your area’s SU Today admin or SUToday@salisbury.edu

SU Today email messages are sent to all @gulls.salisbury.edu and @salisbury.edu email accounts. In accordance with SU policies, students, faculty and staff cannot unsubscribe from the mailing list.

The SU Today website offers an archive of past SU Today announcements. Users can browse announcements in chronological order or use the search feature to find a specific post.

SU Today: Procedures and Protocol

Contributing Process and Whom to Contact:
All SU Today announcements must be approved by an SU Today administrator. See the HOW TO POST section for a list of campus representatives and more details on submitting content.

All members of the SU campus community may submit content to be posted to SU Today and shared in the weekly email digest.

To submit content, send your request – with headline, text, photo (optional) – to an SU Today administrator for approval and posting. When advertising an event, please be sure to include the day, date, time, location and contact information for anyone with questions.

Not all submitted requests will be approved and posted. SU Today administrators may reject a submission if they deem the post is inappropriate, incomplete, or meets one or more of the unacceptable uses criteria (see below). Vice Presidents, Deans and other designated campus leaders are the final authority on posts for their respective areas. 

Acceptable Uses:

  • To make general announcements about happenings on the SU campus.
  • To share additional information about upcoming, sponsored SU events.
  • To share personnel announcements such as hires, promotions, retirements, etc.
  • To disseminate information about policies, procedures and operations.
  • To announce faculty and/or staff training and development programs.
  • To invite faculty, staff or students to volunteer/participate at an SU sponsored event or program.
  • To announce SU-related fundraising efforts.
  • To announce service interruptions and closings due to planned maintenance, inclement weather, or emergency situations (note: the SUPD is the main communication channel for Emergency updates).
  • To announce significant structural and organizational changes.
  • College/major-specific announcements.
  • Kudos announcements.

Kudos:

Faculty/Staff Kudos posts are encouraged to recognize the university-related achievements of Salisbury faculty and staff, such as presentations, publications, promotions and honors (self-Kudos will not be accepted). To submit a Kudos, please provide the honoree’s name and department/office followed by a brief description of a recent accomplishment (within the past 60 days). If possible, include links to applicable webpages, publication info and/or the names of involved organizations or institutions. Like all other post requests, Kudos must be approved by an SU Today representative.  

Example Kudos:
Jane T. Smith (English) had a poem, “Sammy the Sea Gull,” accepted for publication in the Kenyon Review.

Unacceptable Uses:

SU Today is not a promotional tool for individuals, research or programs outside the University community. The following types of Announcements are NOT permitted on SU Today:

  • Announcements for off-campus events or organizations that are not affiliated or endorsed by Salisbury University.
  • Announcements for goods or services not sanctioned by and/or unrelated to University proceedings or functions.
  • Announcements for employment opportunities featured in Human Resources’ Job Postings for the Week email or shared on the Careers page of the SU website. Announcements about these open positions at the University will be shared by the Human Resources Office only. Graduate assistantships and other employment opportunities not directly advertised by Human Resources may be shared to SU Today.
  • Personal or commercial announcements and announcements promoting personal, political or religious viewpoints.
  • Announcements for non-University sponsored sales, parties, stores, restaurants or similar for-profit events.
  • Birthday announcements.

Photos for your announcement:

SU Today does not require photos for an announcement, but your announcement will benefit from visual content. The size for images is 1200 x 600 and at least 72 ppi. You must have permission to use any copyrighted images. SU Marketing and Communications reserves the right to deny the use of certain images due to quality or brand concerns.
