Deep Roots explores the roots of America’s original music – spirituals and jazz, and the cultures from which those genres originated. Local artists Ashley Watkins, flute, and Veronica Tomanek, piano, present works by African-American composers William Grant Still, Valerie Coleman, Marietta Simpson & Evelyn Simpson-Curenton, and Coleridge Taylor-Perkinson. Also on the program is music from Claude Bolling’s Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano, where the duo will be joined by Salisbury University’s Eric Shuster on drums and Lee Knier on bass!
