When an enrolled student who is a member of the Armed Forces (including reserve components) receives orders “to perform a period of service” (i.e., active duty, inactive duty training, or state service), Salisbury University, its faculty and staff may not assign the student a failing grade; characterize any military member’s absence as unexcused; or assess a financial penalty on a member because of withdraw or leave of absence due to receiving orders for service.

Students have the option to withdraw from all courses or to request an incomplete. Students should consult with their instructors to determine which option best suits the service member. Students who withdraw from all courses will receive a full refund of all tuition, fees and housing for the semester. Students will receive a pro-rated credit of dining service. A full refund will be issued for books returned to the bookstore with an SU bookstore receipt and a full refund will be issued for fees incurred for a parking permit. All parking violations, library fines, and other fines remain the students’ responsibilities. For students receiving Title IV funds, financial aid recovery will be subject to requirements for return of Title IV funds to the federal government. Additionally, if a student chooses to receive a grade of incomplete, the student must be provided the opportunity to complete the incomplete courses after the period of service, which could differ from the incomplete policy rules.

Should a military student in good academic standing choose to withdraw, the one-page readmission form should be completed. Students in good academic standing will be readmitted with the same academic status they had prior to withdraw.
