Reconnecting Roots/Reconectando Raíces

Mexican Folk, Jazz & Chamber Inspired Music

Award-winning violinist and composer Natalia Arroyo directs the Arroyo Ensemble, which performs traditional music from northern Mexico worldwide, consolidating their own sound in a fresh and innovative way.

Reconnecting Roots (Reconectando Raíces) is the ensemble’s first full-length album. Supported by the National Fund for the Arts – Traditional Musicians (México).

The original arrangements and compositions fuse the roots of Mexican music with chamber music and jazz, where the improvisation and creativity displayed by each musician constitute another fundamental feature of the ensemble. The result is a blend of sounds that captures the ensemble’s rich knowledge of traditional music and the ever-changing rhythms of northern Baja California and aims to strengthen our musical identity as Mexicans.

The ensemble has performed in various venues, including the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, D.C., Feria Internacional del Libro in Mexico, Foro Once, Canal Once in Mexico, venues in Maryland and others.

Sponsored by the SU Office of Cultural Affairs, World Artists Experiences, Inc., the Embassy of Mexico and the Mexican Ministry of Culture.
