Name of internship host and location: The Office of the State Attorney Saint Mary’s County.

When: Summer of 2024.

How I found it: I have always been interested in the law field and involved in my community which landed me an opportunity to intern at the office.

My role and duties: I was involved in various aspects of the organization’s operations, including financial management, accounting, legal procedures, and overall business functions. My key duties included applying for federal grants, reallocating and balancing accounting books, creating a new strategic plan (SWOT analysis), securing grant funding, assisting in planning community charity events, and supporting evidence collection for jury trials.

Why this particular internship or organization: The State Attorney’s Office is known for its strong ethical standards and integrity, led by a team of highly respected prosecutors. I knew this environment would offer a constant learning experience, which is why I was excited to intern here.

Favorite part: My favorite aspect of my internship was sitting in on grand jury’s, assisting in evidence collection, and partaking in jury selection.

How this experience has helped me: This experience solidified my decision to attend law school while also giving me more knowledge to apply within my courses.

What’s next: After SU, I plan to apply to law school and pursue a dual degree program to earn both an MBA and a JD.

Advice for other students: Be ambitious and always put your best foot forward! Starting a new internship can be intimidating but remember that you were selected for a reason. You know more than you think—so showcase your knowledge while remaining open to learning more to make your experience truly worthwhile.
