The Salisbury University Recycling Department held their second annual Coastal Cleanup Event on Saturday, September 14th at Assateague State Park. This event had a great turnout, with approximately 100 individuals from 15 different student, faculty, and staff organizations participating. In total, 80lbs were collected at Assateague State Park and disposed of properly.
After interviewing many of the participants, most agreed that their motivations behind volunteering for the Coastal Cleanup were to help improve the environment. One student reported that it made her “really sad to see all the trash on the beach” (Jenna Weingard, Environmental LLC). While another student felt inspired by all the people who volunteered at this event, stating that “its important that there are people out there who want to do the right thing for the sake of doing it, and not for any incentive” (Jalen Stephens, Environmental LLC).
