October 24, 5-7 pm
Holloway Great Hall
The musicians of the Al Firdaus Ensemble combine Sufi poetry with different musical styles, such as Classical Western and Celtic music, as well as flamenco. They will first give a workshop on Islamic musical modes (maqams), which are equivalent to musical notes in the West. Each mode is designed to evoke a particular emotional state. The workshop will be followed by a short concert. Sponsored by Clarke Honors College and Fulton Public Humanities.
