Major: Business Management, Minors: Entrepreneurship & Marketing

Fun Fact about me: I love to read!

Internship Employer & Location: Staples and Associates Insurance and Financial – Salisbury MD

When: Summer 2024

How I found it: My family has known Billy (the CEO) for a while now and they were able to give me his contact information. From then on, I got the interview.

My role & Duties: My role was to be a customer services rep while also viewing the everyday activities of my manager, marketing supervisor, etc. They want me to stay on the commercial side so a lot of my duties included sending certificates, answering phone calls, taking payments, client correspondence, and analyzing coverage sheets. There was much more done along the way as well.

Why: I did this internship because it was the one that I could find in the moment. I did not realize how much I would enjoy working in insurance and with those wonderful coworkers. This experience really showed me that you never know what you will end up doing or what you’d be good at, so try something new!

Favorite Part: I think my favorite part (as I am very much a people person) was simply getting to know my coworkers. They are the best people, and they made my experience that much more enjoyable.

How has this helped me: This experience has taught me that I can do anything I put my mind to. The first week I was very discouraged and did not think I would be able to do insurance. It is so much information and every person’s insurance is never the same. It is constantly changing. These challenges taught me that I am more capable than I think, and I can do what I think I can’t do.

What’s next: They have hired me part time to work for them while in school, and they hope that I stay with them after college. As of right now I have not given a definite answer, but it is definitely something I am heavily considering!!

Advice for other students: When you’re discouraged, keep going, and ask all the questions. Even if you think your question is stupid, or wrong to ask, just ask it. That’s the only way you’re going to learn. Don’t give up. You’ll never know what you’re capable of if you give up!

Kudos to PSB for helping me in online communication skills and my ability to stay professional in any situation.
