Salisbury University Libraries offer access to several streaming media platforms, including Kanopy Streaming Video, Swank Motion Pictures and Academic Video Online (AVON), supporting faculty in integrating multimedia resources into their courses. To guide appropriate use of these resources, the libraries have established a Streaming Media Licensing Policy, which outlines key considerations. Notably, while these platforms provide free access to students, faculty are advised against streaming Kanopy and Swank films directly in the classroom. For in-class synchronous use, it is recommended that faculty consult their liaison librarian regarding DVD acquisition.
Due to licensing agreements with publishers, film availability on these platforms is subject to periodic change. Titles licensed through Swank and Kanopy are accessible for the agreed upon one-year period but may not be available to renew when the license expires. Faculty are encouraged to confirm a film’s availability before incorporating it into course assignments. Given that AVON’s library undergoes multiple updates annually, faculty should verify film availability when planning lesson content to ensure consistency in their curriculum.
