The Recycling Department hosted their biannual Donation Drive-Thru Event on Friday, December 6th. SU community members stopped by to donate gently used items and recycle hard to recycle items. Over 40 individuals participated in the event where we collected over 1,700lbs of donations and another 1,000lbs of electronics. Donations will go towards Sammy’s Stash Secondhand Shop and HALO Bargain Center. Donators express their appreciation of the biannual event and the knowledge that their donations help the SU community.
Throughout the Fall semester, about 1,900lbs of donations were collected in the Give & Go Donation Stations in the Residence Halls and outside Sammy’s Stash. In combination with the Drive-Thru Event, over 3,500lbs have been donated this semester. Raising our total collections from the 2024 year to 14,400lbs (7.2tons)!
Sammy’s Stash Secondhand Shop has allowed the SU community access to these free resources and has promoted reuse of items. As of December 12th, Sammy’s Stash has recirculated 880lbs of items back to the SU community and helped over 200 individuals in its first semester. Sammy’s Stash Secondhand Shop is closed for the remainder of the semester, but will reopen at the start of the Spring semester.
Want to see some of the new items we got? Sammy’s Stash is hosting a FREE Pop-Up Event on Friday, February 14th in the Fireside Lounge in GSU from 11am-2pm. Stop by to pick up some clothes, kitchenware, household items, and more!
