On November 21, the Salisbury University Homeschool Physical Education (PE) Program wrapped up another successful semester with a Winter Wonderland-themed field day. Led by its program director, Dr. James Barry, this program provides homeschool students (ages 4-17) the chance to participate in fun and engaging PE classes and team sports that they otherwise don’t have access to. Students participate in age-appropriate activities that include fitness and fundamental skills like throwing and catching and sport-specific skills such as volleyball and basketball. Through these athletic activities, students build important skills like teamwork, coordination and balance while staying active and learning about physical fitness. It’s a great way for kids to connect with others and enjoy physical activities in a supportive learning environment.

The 10-week program also provides future PE teachers with valuable hands-on experience. SU teaching candidates design lessons, manage students of different ages and face real-world challenges that prepare them for their careers. They practice creativity, problem-solving and classroom management while learning how to engage and inspire their students. This program helps them grow into confident, well-prepared educators.

We are proud of the difference this program makes each semester. It provides homeschool families with high-quality PE opportunities while giving SU teaching candidates the tools they need for future success. Thank you to the students, families and teaching candidates who participated this fall. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another great 10 weeks next semester!
