Kara Jordan

My works often illustrate stories about the natural world around us, as well as ask questions about our own nature as humans. Mixing themes of mythological stories, fairy tales, and popular media within my art, I use its familiarity to ease viewers more closely into my own creations. I despise the notion of censorship and the overall idea of masking something into another thing it is not. My creations often come from the deepest recesses of my mind, feelings, and imagination, and to hold it back for me would be akin to running around like a headless chicken. May it be ugly? So be it. May it be bloody? So be it. May it disturb? All up your interpretation; I rarely dictate exactly what a viewer of my works should feel. I experiment with my art, picking apart my fascination with speculative biology and human anatomy to create monsters that I humanize in my illustrations. I am not just an artist but a storyteller, a weaver of life to my own creations and a chronicler of what takes place in their own little worlds separate, but not so different, from our own.
