Lauren Kellam is a dedicated student at Salisbury University who has always felt called to support others. “For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved and found joy in being a support person and advocating for those in need,” she shares.
That passion grew into purpose when she arrived at SU and began shaping it into a meaningful career path. One of her most formative experiences came as a Resident Assistant (RA) in an all-freshman dorm. There, Lauren learned just how powerful intentionality and genuine support could be in shaping someone’s well-being. “Serving as a resource for students from a wide range of backgrounds, stories, and identities taught me the importance of being present, listening deeply, and advocating for others,” she says—skills that she knew would serve her well in the nonprofit world.
When Lauren learned about the Promise Scholarship, she immediately recognized how well it aligned with both her values and her vision for the future.
The Promise Scholarship is awarded to a Salisbury University student who has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to nonprofit leadership. Lauren stood out among applicants by showcasing her impactful work with ShoreCorps AmeriCorps and the Epoch Dream Center, where she continues to serve and support youth in the community.
Lauren also extends deep gratitude to Dr. Daniel Green, Director of the Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW) program and Assistant Professor at SU, for playing a key role in fostering her passion for social work. She completed two social work courses under his instruction and participated in the Summer Research Program he leads—experiences that further affirmed her dedication to the field.
Lauren Kellam is a shining example of the Promise Scholarship’s mission, and we’re proud to celebrate her ongoing impact as a future leader in social work and nonprofit service.
