On March 27, 2025, Salisbury University’s PACE house hosted its annual showcase featuring multiple student lead presentations and dozens of non-profit organizational table’s. We’re excited to share some news about how our programs are building connections across the Eastern Shore. We believe that working together with our communities makes everyone stronger.
One of our new programs is all about learning in a new way. It’s a general education program where students have to take at least one class that involves working directly with people or groups in the community. This helps our students get out there and really connect with the area.
Also, NCC was part of a cool project where they are helping paint a street mural. This was a team effort with local community members and kids. The idea behind the mural is to make the community safer, especially for kids. The goal is that the mural will help drivers slow down in neighborhood area’s. Before the mural, the street was boring and didn’t really grab anyone’s attention, the community is also hoping to get a speed bump put in. We’re thinking that the mural will make the street more interesting and safer for kids to play in. The people who worked on the project even checked out other events to see what would work best for getting the mural approved and making it successful.
We also wanted to learn more about what people in our communities see as their strengths. To do this, we did a Community Strength Survey. This survey was anonymous, so everyone could share what they really thought. We wanted to focus on the good things and the strong points of the community. We talked to people in Somerset County and Wicomico County. We got 290 answers from Wicomico County, 58 answers from Somerset County, and 40 answers from other places.
Finally, we want to give a shout-out to our Presidential Citizen Scholars! We recently held an event to celebrate these students.
We’re committed to staying connected and working together with our communities on the Eastern Shore. We’ll keep you updated on our future plans!
