Sammy’s Stash Secondhand Shop celebrated a successful inaugural school year following its grand opening in August. The shop has quickly become a valuable resource for SU students and employees, offering free, gently used items such as clothing, kitchenware, houseware, décor, and more. In its first week alone, Sammy’s Stash facilitated over 20 appointments and recirculated more than 100 pounds of items back into the SU community. Over the course of its first year, the shop recirculated over 1,750 pounds of items across 434 checkouts, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and student support.
Due to high demand, the shop expanded within its first week of operation, with additional space allocated to accommodate more items and visitors. As an extension of SU’s “Give and Go” program, Sammy’s Stash promotes environmental responsibility by keeping items in circulation within the campus community. Donations are accepted in residence halls and at two satellite drop-off locations: one outside Dogwood Village Unit J and another at University Park Apartment Complex.
To further its mission and outreach, Sammy’s Stash hosted numerous pop-up shopping events on campus. It also provided student engagement opportunities through AmeriCorps positions, enabling students to assist with operations and gain experience in community service and sustainability.
In just its first year, Sammy’s Stash has established itself as a cornerstone of SU’s commitment to sustainability and student support—marked by community engagement, environmental stewardship, and continuous growth.
