Two Salisbury University seniors are gaining valuable public interest law experience through internships with Shore Legal Access, a nonprofit legal aid organization serving the Lower Shore.
Emily King, a Philosophy major and Law, Justice and Advocacy minor, and Lauren Wynn, a Political Science major on the Pre-Law track and Law, Justice and Advocacy minor, were selected as Sandy Brown Public Interest Interns.
The Sandy Brown Public Interest Internship, created in honor of former long-time SLA Executive Director Sandy Brown, provides undergraduate and law students with hands-on legal experience and is supported by The Campbell Foundation.
King assists Shore Legal Access attorneys representing limited-income tenants facing eviction at rent court. “As someone with a background in ethics and advocacy, I was very excited for the opportunity to assist in providing pro-bono representation to those who cannot afford a lawyer,” she said.
Wynn helps with outreach efforts that raise community awareness about available legal resources. “My main goal in life is to make a positive impact and leave the world a better place. Being part of Shore Legal Access allows me to do just that,” she said.
Both students are working from SLA’s Salisbury office.
