Dr. Ron Siers, professor in the Secondary and Physical Education Department and associate head coach for SU’s baseball team for more than 20 years, knows a thing or two about leadership. Since 2002 (alongside longtime colleague Ruth Malone), he has mentored hundreds of aspiring leaders through the Academy for Leadership in Education at SU. His leadership talents were recently highlighted in a national podcast series.
The Leadership Educator Podcast is hosted by professors Dan Jenkins and Lauren Bullock, leadership educators with over 30 years of experience in higher education. In Season 10, Episode 6: Inside Leadership Classrooms, the hosts are joined by Dr. Siers to share his approach to blending leadership principles with sports performance theories in his Athletic Coaching course. Dr. Siers offers valuable resources for developing leadership-focused courses, noting that “Good teaching is good coaching.” His work grew from his observations of leadership in sports and his desire to teach coaches good practices. He emphasizes the importance of teamwork and developing exemplary teammates. A national championship-winning associate head baseball coach, Dr. Siers also leads programs at Ascendant Global Leadership, LLC as a Certified Master of The Leadership Challenge®.
