Dear Campus Community,

The Department of Physical Plant has been overseeing the annual testing of the fire alarm and sprinkler systems this week. These tests have/will include audible alarms and flashing strobes of light.

During Monday’s test in Holloway Hall, several events occurred that we want to provide clarity on for the campus community:

During the audible portion of the test, the announcement was supposed to make clear to the occupants of the building that the alarm is being tested. In some areas of Holloway Hall this message was not heard.

It is critical everyone in the building follow the instructions issued when the alarm goes off. Please treat every activation of the alarm system as an emergency and evacuate the building, unless you receive prior notification of a system test or the audible announcement specifies a test. The issue with the audible “test” warning is being investigated and addressed.

Typically, these tests are announced to campus ahead of time and the actual testing is conducted between the hours of 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.

As noted yesterday, a further test remains in the Guerrieri Academic Commons and is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday, August 16).

Please report any potential issues or failures of these emergency systems to the Department of Physical Plant at PhysicalPlant@salisbury.edu.
