Auditing students, in the Accounting and Legal Studies department, recently toured Tishcon’s manufacturing operations in Salisbury. Mike Richtmyer, President, taught us about the company and the process of making vitamins and nutritional supplements. We learned about blending, production, and quality control while discussing regulatory compliance issues. Director of Quality Control, Eduardo Buckley, led us on an engaging company tour where we were able to understand the manufacturing process by viewing the production line in action. Laura England, Director of Human Resources, also accompanied us on the tour and answered questions. Important corporate topics were discussed including equipment replacement, human resources initiatives and instituting improvements for efficiency.
The tour helped students to comprehend topics discussed in class by illustrating internal control procedures and the manufacturing process. Specifically, this allowed students to understand the magnitude of sales, property and equipment, and inventory related concerns from both corporate and external auditing standpoints. This tour was especially insightful as many of these students have never toured a manufacturing entity.
