ANNOUNCING THE SIX VIEWPOINTS INSTITUTE, 2 PERFORMANCES AND AN OPEN CALL FOR PARTICIPATION!

About the SUMMER INSTITUTE

The Six Viewpoints Institute Summer Residency at Salisbury University will take place from May 22 to June 6, 2025, bringing together an international group of practitioners to share knowledge, conduct research, and deepen their understanding of this historic method. The Six Viewpoints is both a philosophical and practical approach to performance, deconstructing the physical stage and performative elements into six fundamental materials: Space, Shape, Time, Emotion, Movement, and Story.

Now in its second year, the The Six Viewpoints Institute Summer Residency at Salisbury University is offering public performances and opportunities for you, our fellow community members, to participate.

About the PERFORMANCES

We will offer two FREE performances of Ephemera on Tuesday, June 3 & Wednesday, June 4 at 7:30pm in the Black Box Theatre, followed by a Q&A session on June 4.

Ephemera is a dance-theater performance created by Sophia Treanor, Deborah Black, and their late collaborator Mary Overlie, the founder of the Six Viewpoints method. The work explores entropy, transformation, and the emergence of difference in the universe. Set amidst a surreal landscape of sequined aprons, kitchen appliances, and clowns, Ephemera makes visible the invisible forces that shape existence. Through movement, sound, and symbolic imagery, the piece investigates the asymmetry of life’s beginnings—drawing inspiration from physics, microbiology, and Overlie’s choreographic legacy. At its core, Ephemera asks: Is this all there is?

The post-performance Q&A on June 4 will invite audiences to engage in discussion about the Six Viewpoints method, the creative process, and the research that informs the work.
