We have good news! We will be able to award a scholarship from The Faculty Memorial Scholarship fund established in Spring 2015, again this year! This communication is a call for nominations (Deadline October 11th) and an effort to encourage you to nominate a student who meets the criteria below for the scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship, beyond just helping strong students, is to encourage students to consider graduate school and possibly joining our ranks, following in the footsteps of those the scholarship remembers.
Nominations should be submitted in .doc, .docx, or .pdf files via email attachment or in the body of an email to: kmshannon@salisbury.edu .[1] The email must contain the student’s name and SU ID number in the body of the email and the name of the file containing the nomination should be of the form:
Laura Short 1040130.xxx
(Where xxx is appropriately doc, docx, or pdf)
The nomination should include a sentence similar to: “I am nominating Laura Short for the 2024 Faculty Memorial Scholarship”. That will be enough to make the student eligible. Additional information could make it more likely that the committee will choose your nominee.
See below for details about this scholarship. Below is a description of the scholarship, eligibility and process. If you have any further questions, feel free to email me.
The Faculty Memorial Scholarship in memory of former SU faculty in whose name $500 or more has been donated will be given annually to a deserving student who meets the following requirements:
Requirements for the nominee:
Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status;
3.0 GPA or better;
Demonstrate attributes and skill needed to become an effective educator in higher education;
Nominated by a faculty member (each faculty member may nominate one student per academic year)
Once a student is nominated the chair of the Selection Committee, Dr. Kathleen Shannon, will notify the student and invite the nominee to submit an application including a personal statement, via SU’s Award Management portal with a due date of November 15th.
The selection committee will review the applications and nominations and meet on reading day to choose a recipient. The scholarship will be awarded in January and recognized at an SUF event in the spring.
