With an emphasis on artistic production in the Global tradition, This course is an introductory survey of painting, sculpture, and architecture of Global traditions from 1400 through the present. The goal of the course is to increase students’ visual analysis skills and to foster an understanding of how works of art relate to their historical, social, and cultural contexts across the globe. This course will examine the appearance and content of art works through a variety of critical and analytical perspectives, such as stylistic and formal analysis, sociopolitical and economic history, and visual culture studies. The intercultural nature of the course encourages students to consider the wide diversity of the arts produced across the globe and throughout history.
