Hometown: Damascus, Md

Major: Business Management

Fun fact about me: I like to play golf.

Name of internship host and location: Casey Construction Group, Gaithersburg, Md

When: Summer ’24

How I found it: I found this internship at the spring job fair.

My role and duties: My role was Project Coordinator Intern. Throughout the internship, I learned how to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications to understand the project management processes. I also learned about bidding process, including estimating, project pricing, and proposal preparation.

Why this particular internship or organization:  I have an interest in going into the construction industry and I met Casey Construction at the job fair. I made a great connection with their people, and even though I had little experience in the industry, they were willing to take a chance and give me the opportunity to learn.

Favorite part: I had a fantastic experience during my internship. I was able to be put in a position to learn as much as possible in the short period of time. The people at the company are great and created a positive and comfortable environment. My favorite part of the internship was being able to be exposed to multiple sides of the company, from estimating to project management, they allowed me to see it all. Coming from little experience, that is all I could ask for is to see as much as possible.

How this experience has helped me:  This internship was very impactful to my future, both professionally and personally. I was able to get my foot in the door into the industry and was given a chance to build a solid base of foundation knowledge to grow from. I also walked away with a network, which is arguably one of the most important parts of growing in a career. Overall, this sparked more interest in the industry and gave me insight into what a career would be like after I graduate.

What’s next: I am going to continue pursuing a career in the construction industry after I graduate.

Advice for other students: Take advantage of any networking that you can do, because relationships can get you further than you believe, whether it is now or in the future.

Kudos to PSB for providing the opportunity to build a solid professional foundation and preparing me for a future career. Also, thanks to SU for hosting the job fair, because I would not have found this internship otherwise!
