Hello SU students!

As many of you know, effective July 1, 2023, there were changes to Maryland state law regarding the use and possession of marijuana. What does that mean for you as a student?  Here are the bullet points you need to know now:

  • Marijuana is only legal for those over the age of 21.  Even then, an individual is limited to 1.5 ounces of cannabis flower, 12 grams of concentrated cannabis, or a total amount of cannabis products that do not exceed 750 mg. THC.
  • Federally, the use and possession of marijuana remains illegal, regardless of age. State property is governed by federal law. Therefore, the use and possession of any marijuana (including medicinal marijuana) on University property by individuals of ANY age remain illegal.
  • The use of medical marijuana is legal in Maryland if possessing no more than 1.5 ounces.
  • Distributing marijuana is illegal. Distribution includes giving or selling marijuana to others, no matter the amount.
  • It is illegal to transport marijuana across state lines.

You can find out more information about Maryland laws concerning cannabis in this online FAQ: Adult-Use Cannabis FAQs (maryland.gov)

As usual, if you have more questions, feel free to contact the Dean of Students Office. We are happy to answer your questions. Best wishes for a great summer!
