When: Summer 2024
How I found it: I was actively searching various roles in Project Management when I came across Manders Companies.
My role and duties: Junior Project Manager. My responsibilities included entering work orders and project proposals into Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Word, including their labor and material cost. I reviewed and confirmed day sheets, ensuring accuracy with labor hours, and preparing for payroll. I assisted in creating proposals, by reaching out to various vendors and meeting with customers. I performed various clerical duties, completed work orders and construction job jackets within the company filling system. Lastly, I visited various project management companies and created scope of work from customer and completed onsite takeoffs.
Why this particular internship or organization: I chose Manders Companies because of its strong reputation in project management and its focus on providing hands-on experience and professional growth. During the interview process, the Manders team was incredibly welcoming, which made me feel confident that this was the right environment to develop my skills.
Favorite part: My favorite aspect of the internship was visiting different job sites. I enjoyed being out in the field rather than being confined to a typical office setting. One day, I had the opportunity to visit multiple job sites on my own, ensuring that the work was completed correctly.
How this experience has helped me: My internship experience has helped my professional development tremendously. It has provided me with hands-on experience in dealing with real world project management issues, allowing myself to develop and refine problem solving abilities.
What’s next: I plan to continue my studies here at Salisbury, and to graduate in Spring 2025. After graduating I plan to work in the project management field, particularly in construction.
Advice for other students: Do not hesitate to apply to various types of internships related to your major. Start applying as early as possible to maximize your opportunities!
