A study recently completed by Memo Diriker, Dustin Chambers, and Irina Piatselchyts, in collaboration with Colin O’Reilly of Creighton University has been mentioned in several Colorado news outlets. The study team concluded that Colorado ranks sixth in the nation for regulations on businesses. Their report said there were nearly 200,000 restrictions on businesses and that 45% of them could be considered as redundant or otherwise excessive, leading to unintended negative consequences for businesses and for the state’s economy as a whole. Upon the release of the study, Colorado Governor Jared Polis rescinded 208 executive orders Thursday to boost government efficiency. The Colorado Chamber of Commerce, the study sponsor, announced it will be launching a new Regulatory Affairs Policy Council to engage with state regulatory bodies to help lead the organization’s advocacy and reform efforts. Loren Furman, the Chamber President, said the results of the Regulation Impact Study will help inform actions taken in the Chamber’s 10-year strategic action plan.
